Can Ice Creams Control Your Brain?

ice-creamsDid you know that scoops of your favorite ice-cream can control your brain to some extent? Studies suggest that food items like ice creams and burgers have fat molecules that head to the brain and trigger responses. The brain starts sending messages to cells in the body to ignore the appetite suppressing signals from insulin and leptin for approximately three days.  Health experts also state the fact that when people eat something fatty, their body fails to realize when enough is enough and since insulin and leptin are weight regulatory hormones, having fatty food on a regular basis can lead to obesity.

Palmitic acid found in butter, milk and cheese plays an important role in prompting this mechanism. Chances of our brain chemistry changing for a short time period increase when we have something good as ice creams.  Since the brain doesn't instruct the body to stop eating, people tend to overeat.

Experts have performed these tests on mice and rats and tried to explain potentially why many people feel more hungry than normal after indulging in ice creams and burgers. Consumption of ice creams in the US is more than any other country in the world. Does this mean the consumption of 24 quarts of ice cream every year by an average American has something to do with obesity becoming a national problem in the country?  With efforts being made to produce ice creams that are low in fat, it is sad to know that its regular consumption won't do much to stop the rate of obesity in the country.

Several states have made strategies to combat child obesity which is increasing at an alarming rate. Junk food and ice cream vendors have been restricted from few areas that are frequently visited by children and young adults. There are many companies that make ice creams   with sugar, lactose whey protein, dextrose, guar gum, hydrogenated vegetable oil and added flavoring, making it high in fat which can be harmful for children.
