Discovery Communications Offers Pro Bono Services
Discovery Communications is inviting applications for its pro bono initiative called "Discovery Impact: Creating Change." This is the third year of this annual pro bone services program by the company. The company will hold a 12-hour creative marathon and conference to match teams of Discovery employees with the nonprofits chosen for this program.
Creating Change is Discovery's way of keeping its commitment to the community. The program involves a donation by the company of its most valued resource, its talented employees. The company's employees who volunteer for this program provide their skills and talents to nonprofit organizations that are in need of business, creative, communication and marketing services.
The program is set to extend its reach this year, both at home and internationally. Discovery's London office will host its first-ever Creating Change event at the same time when the program will be held in Silver Springs. Furthermore, the program at Silver Springs will expand its scope of services by adding a "Discover Your Skills" component to the offerings.
Under the Discover Your Skills curriculum, the participants will be provided training with innovative tools and resources to help them better serve the needs of their clients. The training will include a mix of public speaking, resume building and networking sessions. The nonprofits will receive assistance from Discovery employees to work on press kits, promotional materials, videos, events and marketing strategies and social networking campaigns.
Furthermore, selected nonprofits will be invited to participate in in workshops, courses and client services sessions hosted by Discovery employees. David Leavy, Chief Communications Officer, Discovery Communications, said: "Creating Change harnesses the creativity, strategic thinking and generous spirit of Discovery to help local nonprofit organizations with their marketing and communications needs. Discovery's greatest assets are our talented, creative employees who are passionate about supporting the community where they work and live. This initiative is another great example of that continued commitment."
