Entry-Level Jobs to Start Your Responsible Career in Marketing and Sales
The good news amid the current USjobless recovery is that a number of responsible careers are available to recent graduates and emerging responsible leaders. As mentioned in my previouspost, there were over 178 entry-level responsible jobs added to justmeans job board over the past 40 days. As an emerging responsible professional, these opportunities are likely to be a valuable springboard to launch your responsible career. Starting in a responsible job for a company you can believe in will help you not only refine your career goals, but also make a valuableimpact on society and our planet!
We previously reviewed responsible career options in operations. Today, we'll review responsible career options in marketing and sales. Now granted, sales and marketing for traditional businesses is not appealing at all (especially knowing that many companies are in fact just greenwashing their products and services). After all, in traditional businesses, marketing and sales aim at getting consumers to buy as much of our products/services as often as possible for the highest possible price. Traditional business marketers reach their consumers using different channels, including advertisements (e.g. billboards, TV, radio, internet banners), and distribution channels (e.g. brick-and-mortar stores, online stores, retailers).
Today, things are different though. Indeed, you have a number of responsible career options in sales and marketing. These responsible careers actually enable you to sell products and services that you can believe in! Furthermore, selling products and services for responsible companies and organizations is tremendously important to get business done better, and to create future jobs by increasing the market share of responsible goods and services! Of course, sales and marketing also happen in other sectors. For example, in the nonprofit sector, marketing might be equated to fundraising, with the goal of getting donors to give as much money as possible as often as possible to fund the services, programs, or products a nonprofit offers to fulfill its mission. In the government sector, marketing is more along the lines of raising awareness about programs and services for eligible parties and individuals to take advantage of them.
Importantly, according to the Occuprational Outlook Handbook from the US Department of Labor, marketing and sales careers are expected to grow by 13 percent through 2018. The growing number of domestic and international goods and services, as well as the need to make responsible products or services stand out in a crowded market contributes to this expected job growth. Furthermore, digital and social media marketing are literally reinventing how consumers make purchasing decisions, with consumers agreeing to pay more for responsible products, and responsible products and services being more recession-resistent than traditional brands. This is all good news if you are interested in responsible career options in marketing and sales. Let's now look at a sample of opportunities you have in marketing and sales for organizations, products and services you can believe in (note that, as always, job postings are 'wish lists'):
