Green Vehicles Wants To Put Something New In Your Driveway

EVs are making waves these days in the news.  From a front page spot in the September issue of Wired to my very first JustMeans post, people are talking.

Last weekend in Palo Alto, there was quite a sight to behold.  In one parking lot, roughly 30 electric vehicles got together (and there were quite a few people around too).  There were RAV-4 EVs, a few Zapino scooters, and there was even one of the 3 (yes, there are only 3 in the whole world) tzero EVs from AC Propulsion.

One of the most exciting vehicles to see up close and personal was the Triac from Green Vehicles.  According to Green Vehicles, the car boasts a top speed of 80 MPH and a 100-mile range per charge.  Of course, that most likely depends on driving style, weather conditions, cargo weight, etc.  The car is surprisingly large.  It seats two passengers and rides on three wheels (two forward, one rear).

Green Vehicles recently announced that they "expect to produce 50-100 vehicles per month commencing in September 2008."  By Q2 of 2009, they are looking to hit 100 or 200 vehicles per month.  They are currently accepting reservations for the vehicles, which have a base price of $19,995.

Given the difficulties other electric cars have seen with the power train, battery life, and speed, it will be interesting to see how the Triac measures up once they start allowing test drives (and better yet, once a few of them actually hit the road).

Here's hoping they don't get delayed!
