Greening Your Easter Basket

easter-basketOnce again, a holiday is upon us, and you know what that means ... lots of waste!!

Now, now, the Ethical Consumer is not Scrooge. She loves holidays too. But she does think they can be celebrated with a little less waste.

So here are some ways to make your Easter a little more environmentally friendly:

Use free-range hardboiled eggs for your egg hunt instead of plastic. You limit your plastic consumption, and the kids get a healthy snack instead of the candy that's usually in the plastic eggs! If the plastic eggs are a must, either use the plastic eggs from last year, or if you didn't save them, save your plastic eggs this year so you can re-use them again.

Say no to the fake plastic grass! Come now, do you really need that stuff?

Use vegetable dye to dye your eggs. I was skeptical that vegetable dye could be as beautiful as the artificial, but look at these pictures! The vegetable dye is way more beautiful!!

Pick fair trade chocolate Easter eggs for your basket. Mmmmm ... chocolate eggs.

And lastly, remember that ultimately, holidays aren't about plastic grass or new toys, they're about spending time with loved ones. Have a wonderful holiday!
