The company has given away more than $50 million over the years in cumulative contributions to the local nonprofit United Way in Racine. SC Johnson's core corporate values include a long-term commitment to community, which underlines its efforts at philanthropy worldwide.
Each year in Racine, SC Johnson runs a strong fundraising campaign to support United Way. The company matches the donations dollar-for-dollar across the board. The contributions this year towards United Way have exceeded $1.7 million. The funds raised through this campaign are deployed to help improve the quality of life for many people in the community. The funds specifically support priority programs and key projects in health, education and income generation.
Fisk Johnson, Chairman and CEO of SC Johnson, said: "Providing local leadership and support to communities -- whether in our hometown of Racine or around the globe -- is part of our DNA. Our ongoing partnership with the United Way of Racine has resulted in new initiatives that fill gaps in community programs that ultimately have a positive impact both our community and its families in need."
SC Johnson is also committed to providing grants to various organizations of all sizes, apart from its old relationship with the United Way. The company has disbursed grants totaling $1.1 million over the last five years. Product donations and grants to the tune of about $250 million have been contributed globally by SC Johnson since 2000.
David Maurer, United Way of Racine County President, says regarding the contributions made by SC Johnson: "Two out of every three families in Racine will benefit from United Way programming during their lifetime - due in large part to the generous funds continuously raised by SC Johnson.
