Sustainable Farm Tours for Informative Sustainable Travel

Farm AnimalsSustainable travel is proving to be a popular market for today's traveler. Both farm and product factory tours have increased in popularity as well. Tours exist for just about everything, from beer and wine to crayons. Sustainable farms are taking notice and are now offering fun family tours across the country. The following organizations are going above and beyond to provide fun and informative sustainable travel through sustainable farm tours.

Carolina Farm Stewardship Association (CFSA) is the culmination of several regional sustainable farms throughout North Carolina and South Carolina. Their ultimate goal is to positively change the Carolina's food system through conscious farming and education. The 5th Annual Eastern Triangle Farm Tour has become a community favorite visited by patrons all over the country. This year's farm tour will be showcasing ten sustainable and humane livestock farms. Aware of the increasing popularity of gardening, there will also be an urban mini- farm on site to promote and educate visitors about growing crops in urban settings. The 5th Annual Eastern Triangle Farm Tour proves that sustainable travel can be fun and helpful at the same time. Admission is $25 per person.

The northeast has vast farmlands and the Pennsylvania Association for Sustainable Agriculture (PASA) is a major organization promoting sustainable farming in the region. This August, the PASA will be holding its 5th Annual Local Foods Week & Central Pennsylvania Farm Tour. Staying true to the root cause, the festivities cost $15 per car and $5 per biker. In addition to being able to buy the freshest dairy, produce, and other farm products from the local farm vendors, visitors will enjoy educational exhibits about healthy eating, sustainable food, as well as local and organic food. PASA strives to sort through the headlines and catch phrases to educate visitors about what is truly important.

The Sierra Club Nebraska shows that even smaller sustainable farm regions can offer sustainable travel through farm tours. Unlike most of the sustainable farm tours around the country, this organization will showcase a small sustainable organic farm- the Rhizosphere Farm. This farm sits on just 1½ acres of land but produces an impressive amount of crops. Visitors will be able to tour the facility to see crop production from beginning to end. There will also be a Question and Answer segment to encourage sharing ideas and education. This local farm tour will provide a smaller scale look into the sustainable farm industry.

As we become more aware of the need to preserve the environment and our own health, organizations like the CFSA, PASA, and Sierra Club Nebraska will pave the way for sustainable farming to emerge in the mainstream. Be proactive in this movement by taking a sustainable farm tour.
