Trend Micro's 'What's Your Story?' Video Contest Promotes Youth Talent

FilmmakingTrend Micro Inc's fourth annual 'What's Your Story?' video competition is underway to showcase the best of the Internet. The innovative, award-winning contest provides youth with an interactive platform to present their filmmaking talents before the world, and also tell how they channeled the immense power of the Internet positively through creative storytelling. It is also an opportunity for filmmakers and students in the U.S. and Canada to win more than $20,000 in prize money.

The contest has differentiated itself this year from previous years, which individual contest categories. This year Trend Micro is asking contestants to answer a single question through their films: "What does the good side of the Internet look like?" The entries will be evaluated not only on the basis of how well they have presented the positive ways to leverage the power of the Internet, but also how effectively the contestants have promoted and crowd-sourced their entries through social networking.

Trend Micro has included two grand prizes of $10,000 each this year. One of the prizes will be for an individual filmmaker, and the other for a K-12 educational institution. Runners-up will receive additional cash prizes. Trend Micro Internet Safety for Kids and Families program is the main sponsor of the contest.

The judging panel this year includes Committee for Children, Center on Media and Child Health, Common Sense Media, Cyberbullying Research Center, ConnectSafely and MediaSmarts. Films will be judged by the quality as well as the number of views and ratings. Submissions can be made until April 16, 2013. The announcement of winners will be made about a month after the last date of submissions. Trend Micro may use the winning entries for education programs and events worldwide.
