The state of Florida is set to do something absolutely groundbreaking.  The government has decided to purchase the nation's largest producer of sugar cane in an effort to restore the environment of the Everglades.  Although states have at times made purchases to protect or restore the ecosystem, there has never been a purchase on this scale.  Governor Charlie Crist said the deal was “as monumental as the creation of the nation’s first national park, Yellowstone.”
