Fox News, human rights, Geneva - The U.N. is debating a bill that free speech advocates say poses unacceptable risks to freedom of speech worldwide.  The non-binding resolution condemns blasphemy in the United Nations, specifically citing Islam as a religion that should not be criticized.  The General Assembly is set to vote on the bill soon, and many are concerned that such resolutions allow governments to abuse the laws in order to restrict human rights.

TIME, human rights, Florida
- A Florida jury will be ruling on the fate of accused human rights violator Charles Emmanuel.  The 31 year old son of former Liberian President Charles Taylor is being prosecuted under a federal law criminalizing torture.  The trial is expected to last another seven weeks, with many witnesses testifying that Emmanuel tortured them during Liberia's civil war.  Defense attorneys say that witnesses are motivated by a desire to seek asylum in the U.S. and are not being truthful.

Ecorazzi, health, Los Angeles - Actress Liz Hurley claims that her new frozen prepared meals can help reduce the risk of breast cancer.  The meals are low in fat, but Hurley claims the real key is in the absence of unnatural chemicals.  The actress lives on a biodynamic farm she bought about two years ago, which she plans on making fully operational when she is granted organic status.

GreenBiz, CSR, Palo Alto - Google unveiled an agressive $4 trillion plan to help America kick its fossil fuel habit by 2030.  The plan is called "Clean Energy 2030," and includes a major push toward electric cars, energy efficiency, and a carbon tax.  The company hopes that the plan can serve as a blueprint for the next president to use as he thinks about energy policy.

CNN ran an alarming piece on endangered species, and stated that 1 in 4 mammals is at risk of extinction. I would like to see more bloggers discuss planetary issues in less academic and more direct ways.
