MILWAUKEE, Wisc., September 5, 2018 /3BL Media/ –  Rise Against Hunger, an international hunger relief organization, recently honored MilliporeSigma for its support in packing and supplying more than 500,000 nutritious meals to families in need across the globe. The Life Science business of Merck KGaA, Darmstadt, Germany, operates as MilliporeSigma in the U.S. and Canada. MilliporeSigma has partnered with Rise Against Hunger since 2016.

During a weeklong meal packing program, MilliporeSigma employees at sites in Milwaukee, St. Louis, Missouri and Temecula, California, prepared 65,000 meals to be distributed to communities worldwide. Additionally, 100 employees — including the Life Science Executive Team (LSET) — packed approximately 22,000 meals in Germany earlier this year. The Rise Against Hunger organization estimates that MilliporeSigma’s contributions have impacted the lives of more than 4,500 individuals in 11 countries.

“What we want everyone to know is that hunger is solvable and is the common thread among the world’s most challenging issues,” said Rod Brooks, President and CEO of Rise Against Hunger.  “When hunger is targeted, you give leverage and hope to every other cause, including poverty, disease, education and the welfare of women and children. We applaud MilliporeSigma for joining us in our efforts to help end hunger by 2030.”

MilliporeSigma has taken this challenge seriously each year, as hundreds of MilliporeSigma employees volunteer at meal packing events that are coordinated through the company’s global volunteer program, SPARK.

“We are immensely proud of our partnership with Rise Against Hunger,” said Renee Connolly, head of Communications and Corporate Responsibility at MilliporeSigma. “Rise Against Hunger brings relief to the vulnerable and hungry and empowers individuals in the communities they serve. It’s been a privilege to be part of this mission.”

According to Rise Against Hunger, there is evidence that the world currently produces enough food for the global population. For this reason, the organization believes that with the right stewardship of resources, it is possible to end hunger in the year 2030.
