Standardized Maintenance & Supply Chain Innovation

Nov 6, 2017 1:00 PM ET

Through fleet automation, Republic Services’ One Fleet standardized vehicle maintenance program, conversion to compressed natural gas (CNG) trucks, and the use of renewable natural gas derived from organic waste, Republic has lowered our fossil fuel usage, which also reduces costs.

In fact, over the past four years, even as our business has grown by 11.5%, we’ve been able to hold our fleet fossil fuel usage to just 2.5%, which also results in reduced carbon impact.

Our One Fleet program, combined with unique supply chain partnerships, enables Republic’s technicians at every location to further reduce the environmental impacts of our collections fleet. From best practices for tire care, rotation and replacement to oil change and oil recycling, as well as advances in our standardized maintenance and supply chain practices – for our entire fleet of nearly 16,000 trucks – we achieve greater environmental efficiencies.

  • 192,000 tires saved per year with Republic’s retreading program (80% of tires are reused)
  • Republic is partnering with a leading tire manufacture on a new, durable tire that gets 25% more life.
  • Republic’s oil change program enables our techs to reduce oil consumption by as much as 50% in most markets.
  • Working with an oil recycling partner, we recycle more than 1.2 million gallons of oil from our collection fleet each year.
