Studio PH collects hair to clean up oil spills

One local salon is making a difference by adopting an environmentally conscious attitude to running their business.

Tom Omerod, owner of Studio PH in Downtown Oakville said, “I have recognized the abuse my industry has done; the damages we have done to this planet.”  With the help of Green Circle Salons, Sudio PH has now dedicated seven years into being environmentally friendly. Last month alone, they kept 60 pounds of hair foils, colour tubes, paper and plastic out of the landfill.

Tom has shown how a salon can run its business successfully while still adopting a few green solutions. His awareness for the environment first started when he decided to replace plastic bags with paper bags. “I went to paper bags. I refused to have plastic. Now we have customers that do not even want a bag.” This first step progressed to the use of recycled brown paper towels and biodegradable paper cups. Now Studio PH donates cut hair that often gets swept away, chemicals that are generally sent down the drain, paper cups, colour tubes and foils to Green Circle Salons.
