Trevor Plouffe of the Minnesota Twins Helps His Country While Inspiring a Younger Generation

Trevor Plouffe, Minnesota Twins third baseman, is all business on the field, but all smiles off of it.

A kid at heart, he finds time to connect with children while benefiting the community, despite the grueling schedule of being a professional baseball player.

In 2015, Plouffe teamed up with United Heroes League – formerly Defending the Base Line - an organization that aims to ensure that children of military members are afforded every opportunity to participate in the game of baseball. United Heroes League hosts special events and provides financial assistance so children of military families can play the game.

Plouffe works with the Minnesota Twins and United Heroes League  to provide tickets to military families so they can enjoy a day at the ballpark. He also hosted a baseball clinic for 40 United Heroes League military children at the Minnesota Twins stadium, sharing the game he loves with children.

Keeping in line with military duties, Plouffe is also involved with Folds of Honor, an organization designed to provide education support to spouses and children of America’s fallen and wounded soldiers. Plouffe stood alongside military families as they were honored during Folds of Honor night at Target Field last season.

On a mission to inspire the next generation, Plouffe is actively involved in the Action Team national youth volunteer program. The Action Team consists of student volunteers in high schools across America who dedicate their time to improving their communities, and team with Major Leaguers to encourage other high school students to do the same.

Plouffe joined 45 Action Team Captains from Southern California at the Blue Butterfly Village, to assist with a project intended to help normalize the lives of troubled veterans and their families.

Plouffe and the students spent much of the January 24 morning sprucing up the gardens, setting up irrigation and hanging protective netting.

“Giving back to our veterans should always be a priority,” Plouffe said. “When they come home they should feel safe and proud, and that is what the Blue Butterfly Village does for them.”

Plouffe also participated in one of the Action Team’s national teleconference calls. He spent an hour sharing stories and inspiring students to take active roles in their communities. Students from New York to Hawaii dialed in to hear Plouffe’s thoughts.

“Continue to do what you do,” said Plouffe during the call. “You’re inspiring young kids to follow in your footsteps.”

Plouffe is certainly practicing what he preaches.
