Project 24: Nai Basti, Dadri, India

The village of Nai Basti Dadri is located in a rural community where farming is the main source of livelihood and engages sixty percent of the economically active population. Women in this area work an average of 19 hours, while men work around 12 hours a day. Women and girls walk about three to four miles over dangerous terrain to bring water and firewood home to their families – sometimes more than once a day.

“Access to clean drinking water is a big challenge in my community. Many girls also have to abandon their schooling just to complete this task.” – Sakina, Grade 10 Student

Their primary water source is ground water and is consumed for drinking without any filtration. Due to lack of health education and proper hospitals, there are frequent cases of waterborne and other diseases. Given these circumstances, there is an urgent need for access to clean water and sanitation, which the new AquaTower can now provide.
