275 Volunteers Celebrate Timberland’s Serv-a-palooza and Transform Nine Sites in Lawrence, MA
Last week, as part of the brand’s 22nd annual Serv-a-palooza event, Timberland convened more than 275 volunteers for a powerful day of community service in Lawrence, MA. Volunteers from the brand’s global headquarters in Stratham, NH transformed nine sites with eight different partner organizations through a variety of tasks, indoors and out. Together they:
- hosted a “footprints fair” at two local schools, where they mentored, engaged, and distributed shoes and backpacks to over 500 students and upgraded the playgrounds and interiors;
- painted and upgraded resident rooms, and prepped meals for serving and freezing at two family shelter organizations;
- painted the dining room and kitchen for a local soup kitchen;
- sewed cloth napkins and curtains for use at the shelters and soup kitchen;
- painted a “Nature Needs Heroes” themed mural;
- built dressing rooms, office cubes and painted a new space that will double the capacity of an organization that boosts women’s self-esteem through the power of clothes; and
- built 32 raised garden beds and installed over 100 fence posts for an urban garden that provides produce to many of the organizations served.
“Serv-a-palooza is one of my favorite days each year,” said Jim Pisani, global brand president for Timberland, who volunteered for Serv-a-palooza and helped fit students for new Timberland® boots at one of the schools. “The smiles on the students’ faces when they receive their new boots inspires, rewards, and only confirms why it’s so important to take the time as a brand, every year, to step outside, work together and make it better.”
Since 1992 Timberland has offered its employees around the world paid community service hours through its award-winning Path of Service™ program. Today, full time employees have the opportunity to serve up to 40 paid hours each year. The brand organizes two global days of service, Earth Day in the Spring and Serv-a-palooza in the fall. This year’s Serv-a-palooza will engage Timberland employees in 40 projects in 19 different countries from September to October.
