Providing opportunities for Team Members and aspiring leaders at our Integrated Resorts is essential in nurturing their growth in hospitality at Las Vegas Sands. Sands China Ltd. recently honored 44 Team Member and about 200 local university student graduates from their training and development programs at a special ceremony.

Through a partnership with the University of Macau’s Center for Continuing Education since the 2014-2015 school year, a third group of Team Members successfully completed the customized one-year Diploma Program in Business Management.

“One of the best ways we can invest in our company and in Macao is to invest in our Team Members,” said Antonio Ramirez, senior vice president of human resources for Sands China. “This unique diploma program helps Sands China’s local Team Members grow academically, professionally and personally. As a result, they become stronger as Team Members and as industry professionals, and can further contribute to Macao’s development as a world center of tourism and leisure.”

Tailor-made for Sands China Team Members, the program can also be adjusted as needed to match Team Members’ learning and practical needs. Students must complete eight courses—a total of more than 330 hours of coursework—and are given MOP 10,000 in sponsorship from Sands China for course fees. Departments coordinate with Team Members to accommodate their class schedules.

The company is the first to have worked with the University to develop a one-year program and has awarded more than 140 Team Members with diplomas. The recent graduates represented various gaming and non-gaming departments including table games, facilities, food and beverage, market development, surveillance, and others.

The Integrated Resort Internship Program is designed to provide local university students opportunities to work full-time at its properties on a short-term basis while fulfilling a portion of their degree requirements. The program allows students to gain a diversified mix of valuable work experience through the Integrated Resort model. Students can take on full-time internship opportunities in 15 non-gaming departments including concierge, food and beverage, corporate communications, information technology, facilities management, props design, and more. About 20 percent of the 2017 graduates accepted full-time positions within the company by participating in the Fast Track Supervisor Program or Career Experience Opportunities Program (CEOP).

The CEOP gives local university students the advantage of gaining comprehensive and professional on-the-job training on a long-term yet flex-time basis. The students are able to focus on their university studies while they practice applying what they learn in the classroom to real-world Integrated Resort operations. Students may be offered supervisory trainee positions after graduation based on the number of training hours accumulated and their work performance. The Fast Track Supervisor Program trains exceptional local university graduates to work full-time in non-gaming departments, with a goal to reach supervisor-level positions within four to 12 months. Since 2016, a total of 19 participants have become supervisors in various departments including housekeeping, front office, concierge and Paiza rooms. An additional 16 participants in the program are expected to become supervisors later this year.
