'Creating Change' Returns, Discovery Accepting Applications from Nonprofits

Last November, I had the privilege of participating in Discovery Communications’ first Creating Change pro bono event — where employees across the company lent their creativity and talent to local nonprofits in need of marketing, communications, social media and creative support. Today, Discovery’s announcing the return of the Discovery Impact initiative, along with the call for applications from nonprofit organizations.   Creating Change 2010 brought together over 200 employees in Silver Spring working on campaigns for 40 nonprofits — everything from promotional materials and press kits to event strategies and social media campaigns. My colleague Matt and I worked with Us Helping Us, drafting their first social media strategy. As a result, this was included in a grant proposal and the D.C.-based organization that provides programs and services aimed at reducing the impact of HIV/AIDS in the black gay community received $74,000 from Kaiser Permanente to support their social media strategy, including the creation of a social media coordinator position. This is just one of many examples of how we were able to support a great group of very worthy nonprofits.   Click here to read more
