HANOI, VIETNAM, November 30, 2020 /3BL Media/ – FedEx Express, a subsidiary of FedEx Corp. (NYSE: FDX) and one of the world’s largest express transportation companies, has worked closely with the non-government organization Water Mission, to deliver relief and aid on behalf of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Vietnam, to support central Vietnam flood victims.

FedEx lent its shipping services and network to help Water Mission transport more than 975,000 water purification packets. Each packet can treat 10 liters (2.64 gallons) of unfiltered water, making it safe for human consumption. This can serve as an effective short-term solution to meet the potable water needs of residents impacted by the extensive flooding. According to the Sphere Standards, the average volume of water used for drinking and domestic hygiene in a disaster is a minimum of 7.5 liters (1.98 gallons) per person per day . The relief shipment will contribute to the provision of nearly 10 million liters (2.64 million gallons) of safe water and will be donated to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Vietnam for distribution among disaster victims as humanitarian aid.

Since October, Vietnam’s central provinces have seen seven tropical storms and typhoons that have caused floods and landslides and have devastated communities and livelihoods. It is estimated that over 200,000 houses were damaged or swept away. The destruction from the floods have inflicted economic damage worth VND 17 trillion ($734.67 million).

”After any natural disaster, access to safe water is critical because that helps to prevent the spread of waterborne illnesses,” said Water Mission CEO and President, George C. Greene IV, PE. “We are grateful to FedEx and their continued collaboration and support of our disaster response efforts in bringing safe water to the thousands of people affected by Typhoon Molave and Vamco in Vietnam.”

“We recognize that people are in desperate, urgent need of supplies as a result of the floods in central Vietnam having caused immense devastation. At FedEx, we are here to help in whatever way we can and are leveraging our global network and logistics expertise to deliver these lifesaving resources as rapidly as possible to those who need it most.” said Hardy Diec, Managing Director of FedEx Express Indochina.

As a part of the company’s FedEx Cares “Delivering for Good” initiative, FedEx uses its global network and logistics expertise to help organizations with mission-critical needs in times of disaster and for special shipments.
