#MillionPossibilities: Celebrating Helping One Million People See

More than two billion people worldwide, including many in the U.S., lack access to proper vision care due to income, distance or disaster.

VSP launched Sight for Students, our first Eyes of Hope program, in 1997 to ensure that all school-aged children had access to quality vision care. Today, Eyes of Hope has evolved and expanded to support communities around the globe through initiatives that bring access to eye care, education, and disaster relief to places where they’re needed most.

This year, we’re celebrating a big milestone: providing one million people in need with no-cost eye care through Eyes of Hope programs, including Sight for Students and VSP Mobile Eyes.

We couldn’t think of a better way to celebrate than by helping students in need see a world of possibilities. In March, VSP Mobile Eyes will visit Monarch School in San Diego to provide no-cost eye exams and new glasses to their students. Monarch School is a K-12 school, run as partnership between the San Diego Unified School District and a non-profit foundation that offers a comprehensive education alongside social services designed to help students impacted by homelessness. Last year, a comprehensive eye exam and glasses helped Monarch senior Matthew C. keep sight of his dreams to go to college and pursue an education in the very field that helped him succeed – social work.

We’re grateful to the many VSP employees and VSP optometrists who have volunteered their time and expertise to care for each of the one million people we’ve helped see. We’re also honored to have partnered with many charitable and community organizations and public officials to deliver eye care to those most in need.

In the spirit of celebrating everything that clear vision makes possible, all month long on our VSP Vision Care social media pages, we will be sharing what “seeing clearly” means to those who joined us on this journey to one million; highlighting the ordinary pleasures in life to the extraordinary opportunities granted by the gift of sight. Grab a piece of paper, white board or chalk board, snap a photo and share your own perspective with us!
