Riding to Save Lives

The BC Salmon Farmers Association has a long-standing partnership with The Heart and Stroke Foundation. This year we took that partnership one step further and sponsored a VIP team for the 2015 Big Bike event in Campbell River on June 4th.

If you haven't heard The Heart and Stroke Big Bike before, it’s a really big red bike that holds 29 riders and a driver. It’s quite incredible to have that many people riding around town at once, cheering at cars honking at them, all with the same goal…to fundraise and help create more survivors.

We encouraged our members to get involved and show their support for leading a heart-healthy lifestyle A big thanks to the 21 riders who participated from Grieg Seafood, Cermaq Canada, BC Centre for Aquatic and Health Sciences, AKVA, and Badinotti.

In addition, with the help with Chefs Cori Wheeler and Pierre Conroy and Marine Harvest Canada, we were able to “sell” salmon burgers and salmon tacos for additional donations. In total, the BCSFA raised $5,823 for The Heart and Stroke Foundation. Overall, all the teams that participated in the Campbell River Big Bike event raised $23,840.17.
