At the end of September, members of Hotel Operations at The Palazzo participated in a volunteer event at Three Square, helping with the preparation of snacks and meals for the less fortunate.  They aim to volunteer at two local organizations per year as a part of their efforts to give back.

“We try to volunteer at a food bank or shelter where we can give back to the community,” Devin O’Brien, Hotel Front Desk Manager, said.  “We had one of our Team Members in the kitchen cooking and the rest of us were packing snack and dinner kits for kids.  We had an assembly line going with everyone helping put items in boxes.  We were able to put about 10,000 boxes together for the kids.”

The 13 volunteers spent three hours at the state-of-the-art facility where Three Square gives more than 100,000 men, women, children and seniors food each and every month.  Through Sands Cares, various departments at The VenetianThe Palazzo and Sands Expo have the opportunity to volunteer with local charities and build team unity all at once.

“We have great fortune and opportunities here at Las Vegas Sands,” Jordan Jakeway, Front Desk Lead and Mentor said. “I always try to take part in any of the volunteer opportunities that the company provides because it’s something I enjoy.  The department always makes sure we have a way to give back, whether it’s going to one of these types of events or just participating in a campus toy drive.  There’s always something you can get involved with.”

Through Sands Cares, Las Vegas Sands’ global corporate citizenship program, the company encourages philanthropic work worldwide, including financial giving, Team Member volunteerism and in-kind support. The goal for Sands Cares is to build on the company’s legacy of making an impact in the communities in which we operate.

“I encourage everyone to get involved, if they haven’t already,” said Fernando Rodriguez, Front Desk Lead.  “I’ve always enjoyed doing philanthropic work and when I lived in Chicago, I was involved with my local church where we always volunteered with local charities.  This made me feel fulfilled and took me back to my days in Chicago.  This was my first event with the company and I’m really motivated to do more.”

Jaime Miranda, Executive Director of Hotel Operations for The Palazzo, encourages the department to participate in as many Sands Cares volunteer opportunities as possible.  Through their LEAD Program, desk agents in the hotel operations department are mentored for positive movement in their careers at the property, while reducing barriers, supporting the community, and spending time together through team building exercises.

“I believe we are more successful when we learn to rely on each other and in turn, we will better serve our guests,” Miranda said.  “Sands Cares fosters a sense of pride, accomplishment and passion in the volunteer opportunities that are offered.  The company offers amazing opportunities to give back.”
