Energy Well Spent: Joining in the “Three, 2, 1 Go!” Race
On Saturday August 18th, Maisonneuve park played host to passionate families and friends who gathered to participate in the “Three, 2, 1 Go!” race, in order to raise awareness and funds for kids and adults affected by Trisomy 21. For those who may be unaware, Trisomy 21 is another name for Down syndrome, so called because it is related to the presence of an extra chromosome in the 21st pair. People with Down Syndrome, as well as their families, teachers and friends, face a particular set of challenges in their day to day lives. For this reason, a Montreal organization called RT21 (Regroupement pour la Trisomie 21), dedicates itself to providing adequate resources for families to overcome the challenges involved in the care of children or adults with Down syndrome and to provide people with Down Syndrome with opportunities for social participation and personal development.
Several of our employees participated in the 5km race, one of the event's three runs, the other two being the 10km race and the 1km family walk. The 5km race began early in the morning, and the subsequent races followed suit at different intervals. The event ended at noon and on a cheerful note, with an award ceremony, a picnic and festivities. Hosted by local celebrities Guillaume Lemay-Thivierge and Mariloup Wolfe, the race attracted over 900 participants and raised over 100,000 dollars for the event.
Our five Vigilant runners trotted alongside hundreds of others, eager to do their part for this event, and were well-rewarded with the knowledge that their efforts contributed to a hopeful organization with a great cause.
