It's Easy Being Green - Publishers Weekly
November 25, 2010 New Society Publishers was featured in Publishers Weekly's green issue this past week. The article includes selected reading in the "green" genre as well as conversations with leading green publishers. Publisher Judith Plant sums up our work saying, "We provide tools to activists and to engage activists in solutions. There is a growing audience for radical books." The article also gives a nod to our environmental standards, recognizing our leadership role in setting standards for environmentally sound printing practices. "New Society Publishers has used 100% post-consumer recycled paper and printed with vegetable-based, low VOC inks since 2001, and in 2005 they made a commitment to become carbon neutral through annual offset investments." While we diligently practice carbon offsetting, we also reduce our direct carbon load by curtailing our shipping and travel as much as possible. Each year we give very careful consideration to how we will direct our carbon offset dollars. Last year, we offset our carbon footprint through a donation to the Solar Electric Light Fund (SELF). We chose SELFbecause we felt the benefits were direct, real and lasting. In this short video, Power to Heal, you can see the impact one set of solar lighting had on a medical clinic in Burundi.
Because all our books focus on positive, sustainable solutions, I am always curious to see what New Society titles are featured in a "green" reading list. Posted By: EJ
