Disney’s Movie Moments For Sick Children in U.S. Hospitals
(3BL Media/Justmeans) - Kids deserve long, wonderful lives. So when they get ill, it is always an unhappy time, especially if it means going into hospital. Hospital is never fun places for children; whether they are there just for an hour, the day or they have to stay overnight or longer for treatment or recovery, it can be a frightening place. Some parents know only too well about the effects of prolonged hospitalisation on young children and how important it is for them to be able to play and feel normal, no matter how bad their condition, which is why Walt Disney Studios new Disney Movie Moments is such a feel-good, warm and happy initiative.
Disney wants to improve the lives of children in hospitals across America. The company will be bringing current Disney theatrical releases into over 40 hospitals for patients who are unable to visit the cinema. Remarkably, Disney is the first Hollywood studio to create a program of this kind, building upon the company’s long tradition of supporting children’s hospitals by bringing the latest in Disney storytelling directly to these very special fans. Disney Movie Moments aims to expand upon Disney’s heritage to provide happiness and laughter to children and families when they need it most.
Laughter and enjoyment is a very important part of well-being, as it allows staff, patients and relatives at medical centres to get a little light relief from the misery of ill-health. On the surface, you may think that laughing is the last thing you want to do as a doctor, or as someone visiting the hospital or even a patient. But it is one of the most important things: laughing is a healthy sign of coping.
Children’s hospitals across the U.S. do amazing work. While it would be impossible to match the level of compassion and impact that doctors, nurses, and child life specialists have on the life of a young patient, this Disney project hopes to help these sick children by bringing a little extra happiness and comfort while in hospital care.
The film, “Muppets Most Wanted,” will kick off Movie Moments as the first film available via Disney’s Screening Room Application, which is a secure video streaming solution that will be pre-installed on special devices distributed to each hospital. As new Disney films release in theatres throughout the year, they will be streamed directly to the hospital and made available for viewing for audiences here. It has often been thought that happy children get better quicker. In the past there has been little thought to the emotional needs of sick children, especially those in hospitals where visiting times for parents were restricted and the outside stimulus for children in hospitals was almost unheard of. Thankfully, times have changed—dramatically.
