Huggies MomInspired: A Social Innovation Program That Awards Mumpreneurs

In its third year, the Huggies MomInspired, a social innovation grant program that awards mum entrepreneurs with funding and resources for their own unique baby or child care business idea, has announced 11 new recipients. Each winner receives $15,000 to help fund their business product or service. Tory Johnson, Spark & HustleNew York Times bestselling author and “Good Morning America” contributor, teamed up with Huggies to welcome the latest group of “mum bosses.” Tory Johnson, a “mompreneur” herself, started her own business with limited resources and understands the importance of projects like Huggies MomInspired to help provide funding to women in business. Women still receive well under 10 percent of overall equity financing. Tory Johnson says, “I’m thrilled to be a part of this program which is a leading example of how to help support women in business. It is efforts like Huggies MomInspired that can help moms turn their passion and purpose into profit. After all, 84% of mompreneurs said becoming a mom encouraged innovation and creative thinking.”

Huggies® recognises that there is a dynamic and talented community of mothers who strive to make life as a parent easier and more enjoyable every day. This is why it wants to inspire American mums from all walks of life to channel some of their social innovation ingenuity into products that help improve the lives of all mums. The Huggies MomInspired Grant Program these business mums bring their start-ups and new product ideas to life by providing business advice and funding.

Since 2010, this social innovation scheme has received more than 1,700 applications and awarded 32 women with nearly half of a million dollars in grant money to help make their business dreams come true. In reality, many women find it hard to get capital to fund a new business. In fact, a recent Huggies MomInspired survey found that three out of four mompreneurs reported using their own personal savings to start their company.

In addition to the grant that this social innovation funding program provides these mums, they will also receive business advice from Maria Bailey, author, radio and TV personality and founder of BlueSuitMom.com including support from global brand Kimberly-Clark, famous for its products such as Kleenex, Scott, Huggies, Pull-Ups, Kotex and Depends, to promote their ideas.

This year’s 2012 winners ranged from social innovation products such as Aqueduck, created by Susanna Lee which extends the water in the sink and bathtub so that it is more accessible to children to Assessables by Jonelle Krier, a newborn bodysuit that allows for air drying of the umbilical cord, while keeping body covered for optimal thermoregulation and whole host of other cutting-edge and social innovation products. Finally, a last thought, flagged up by the Huggies MomInspired survey - which is that almost two out of three mompreneurs said that they have a better work-life balance now than at their previous job.
