IHG Sets New Corporate Responsibility Goals for 2013-2017
(3BL Media/Justmeans) – InterContinental Hotels Group (NASDAQ: IHG) believes that being a responsible business results in mutual benefit for the company and its stakeholders and for the society. The company has announced new Corporate Responsibility (CR) targets for 2013-2017 to make a long-term societal impact. The new targets include reduction of carbon footprint per occupied room by 12 percent, and reduction of water consumption per occupied room in water-stressed areas by 12 percent.
Along with the new targets announced by the company, IHG has also released an update on the progress achieved against previous targets, as well as IHG’s 2010-12 carbon footprint impact.
IHG has three core CR programs: IHG Green Engage, IHG Shelter in a Storm program, and IHG Academy. IHG Green Engage is a user-friendly Internet-based system that helps the company manage and reduce its impact on the environment. The program involves tracking of the usage of energy, water and carbon and waste management at IHG properties along with the associated costs. It provides more than 200 green solutions, which the company’s hotels can implement to reduce their environmental impact and achieve energy savings of up to 25 percent. IHG also aims to track and report supply chain diversity and integrate CR criteria into the selection and evaluation procedure for its preferred suppliers.
The IHG Shelter in a Storm program has set a target to contribute $10 million to communities through donations and in-kind support for the period 2013-2017. The company’s other core program, IHG Academy, has set a target to provide skills and improved employability to 20,000 people through this program.
