LinkedIn Supports Taproot’s “Make It Matter Challenge” Awards

Taproot engages millions of business professionals in the U.S. in pro bono services to address pressing social needs and challenges.
Taprootâs innovative âMake It Matter Challengeâ Awards, where four finalists will present their ideas for connecting thousands of nonprofits to quality pro bono resources to a top panel of judges, is a key step in this direction. The panel of judges includes LinkedInâs executive chairman and co-founder Reid Hoffman and Taprootâs President and CEO Liz Hamburg.
The event, led by Taproot Foundation, is sponsored by LinkedIn and Hoffman, and will be hosted on September 5 at the premises of LinkedIn Corporation in Mountain View, CA. Since September 2013, over two million LinkedIn members have shown an inclination towards the idea of giving back by providing their professional services free of charge (pro bono) to a nonprofit.
82 percent of the surveyed LinkedIn members have indicated their interest in volunteering their time and skills. This reveals the immense potential of skilled services that are waiting to be tapped. Taproot launched the challenge to generate promising ideas that would transform the landscape of pro bono service and find new ways to connect high-performing nonprofits to a vast pool of motivated professionals willing to provide free services.
In the forthcoming challenge, two teams with the best ideas will each receive an award of $10,000. The two winning teams will additionally receive $5,000 each to donate to the nonprofits of their choice. More than 150 ideas were submitted as a part of this challenge.
