Social Enterprise: Accenture investing in Tomorrow’s Canadian Entrepreneurs
The Accenture Foundations, part of Accenture, the global management consulting, technology services and outsourcing company, is investing in social enterprise and in Canada’s economic future. It awarded the Canadian Youth Business Foundation (CYBF) a grant of US$420,000 in August 2011 to help this national charity support young entrepreneurs. This is a two-year commitment and is part of Accenture’s global corporate citizenship initiative called, Skills to Succeed; which aims to equip 250,000 people around the world by 2015 with the talent to get a job or build a business. This grant will help CYBF mentor more than 2,000 entrepreneurs aged from 18 to 34, enhancing the mentoring skills of more than 3,700 existing and new advisers who help budding entrepreneurs build sustainable businesses across Canada.
The timing of this award was perfect as it came well in advance of CYBF being the official host of Global Entrepreneurship Week, which takes place from 14 to 20 November, 2011. This week aims to inspire millions of young people to embrace social enterprise, innovation, imagination and creativity through entrepreneurship.
Bill Morris, managing director of Accenture in Canada, says, “Accenture’s work empowering Canadian youth through our work with CYBF builds on our goal to make a difference in the lives and careers of people across Canada. Teaming with CYBF fits with Accenture’s global corporate citizenship focus, Skills to Succeed, which recognizes that skills are one of the most powerful drivers of success.” This grant is an extension of Accenture’s social enterprise relationship with CYBF which started in 2006.
Accenture will also provide CYBF with pro-bono services to help ensure the long-term success of this social enterprise program, and the company’s employees will volunteer to provide a new online mentoring orientation program which will upgrade the skill sets of both mentors and mentees. The Accenture volunteers will be recruited to act as mentors to the entrepreneurs.
The CYBF and Accenture share a commitment to invest in the success of tomorrow’s business leaders by providing them with the skills and support they need to start and sustain their own businesses, which will drive economic vitality in communities. Accenture support is crucial to the work of CYBF; it will help the organisation to strengthen and broaden its very successful mentoring program for dynamic young Canadian entrepreneurs. The CYBF is a very driven organisation, wanting to inspire more people to follow their passion, spark new ideas, think like a tycoon and choose entrepreneurship as a career.
