World Centric mission is to reduce economic injustice and environmental degradation through education, community networks, and sustainable enterprises.
Our History
World Centric was founded in 2004 raise awareness for large scale humanitarian and environmental issues and to raise awareness of each individual's personal connection to the world. In 2004, World Centric hosted films/speakers, offered courses on sustainability, simple living and globalization and worked on a Conscious Living guide. Since there was no funding and as well in order to be a self-sustaining organization, without having to ask for donations, grants or fund raise, World Centric started to sell Fair Trade Products and compostable products in beginning of 2005. World Centric continued to host films/speaker series and offer courses alongside selling of the products and registered as a taxable California Non-Profit Corporation in September 2005, with the intention of filing for a tax-exempt 501(c)(3) status in 2006. By summer of 2006, majority of World Centric's time and resources were devoted to managing the organically growing sales of Fair Trade and compostable products. According to the lawyers the sales of products did not constitute a non-profit activity and advised that the application for 501(c)(3) status would not be granted by the IRS. World Centric never did file for a tax-exempt status and continued on as a taxable non-profit with almost all resources and time going towards supporting the sales of compostable products.
World Centric recently as of March 2009, converted from a taxable non-profit to to for-profit as the sales of the compostable products had become and currently is the main activity. The conversion to for-profit would allow World Centric to seek funding to support the still organically growing sales (without any active sales/marketing) of the compostable products. World Centric's mission, vision and values stay the same - to make a difference and create a more just and sustainable world.
