In 1982, Timberland opened its factory in the Dominican Republic to be a source of hand-sewn and Gore-Tex® fabric stitched uppers. At the time, it was not unique for a brand to open and operate its own factory. Twenty four years later, the Recreational Footwear Company Dominican Branch Office (RFC) factory remains the single Timberland-owned manufacturing operation in a supply chain of over 230 factories.
