Jefferson Twp Students Awarded Best in Nation Prize for App Design

JEFFERSON — Middle School students are being honored today for their app design, “Super Science Girl,” one of eight winners in the national Verizon innovative App Challenge.

The app is designed to spark young girls interest in science and technology activities. Verizon officials will join district officials, Jefferson Township principal Kevin Lipton and teacher Nancy Harris in presenting the award this morning at the Oak Ridge school.

The honor is awarded annually to a college coach who has been engaged vigorously in the Coaches vs. Cancer program’s fundraising, education and promotional initiatives and has demonstrated leadership in the fight to save more lives from cancer.  Lavin, a prostate cancer survivor, received the Champion Award at the 2014 NABC Guardians of the Game Awards Show.

Delivery center has extra reason to celebrate on its one-year anniversary

This year, an unprecedented number of commercial airplanes will be delivered to airline customers around the world from the delivery center in Everett, Wash., located next to where the majority of Boeing’s widebody airplanes are built. In April 2014, as the Center celebrated its one-year anniversary, it also had something else to celebrate -- receiving the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Gold certification from the U.S. Green Building Council.
