On MLK Day of Service, hundreds of Duke Energy employees fanned out across our communities to serve others. Each year, thousands of people across the country spend the day serving their communities to carry on the legacy of the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

From packing STEM kits for local students and stuffing teddy bears for children impacted by disaster to serving food and building homes for those in need, Duke Energy In Action volunteers put our purpose into action: to power the lives of our customers and the vitality of our communities.

Throughout the years, we’ve learned many valuable lessons, like how to plant a tree without getting your Timbs dirty (just kidding, they always get dirty), how to move two thousand bricks via human chain and most importantly, that we have the potential to do more. So, this year, we set out to green not just one city, but three.

Timberland Revisits Philadelphia’s Rail Park One Year After Transformational Service Event

While community service is a core part of Timberland’s DNA, and employees around the globe volunteer at many events each year, we don’t always have the chance to return to the partners we serve and see the lasting impact of our work. I recently was able to revisit the Philadelphia Rail Park, which was the focus of Timberland’s 2017 urban greening effort and the site of a large-scale volunteer event to bring the park to life.
