When we are surrounded by difference, we are better. We know diversity amongst board members, leaders, and teams has impact at scale. California recently became the first state to require public companies to have women on their board.

At Cisco, we were co-founded by a woman and have had women on our board for more than 22 years. Currently, we have three women serving on our board.

That’s me in the photo above, engaging with an interactive, virtual reality (VR) installation on the “Check Your Blind Spots” unconscious bias training tour bus. In this VR experience, I’m invited into an encounter between two young black men, a suspicious elderly white neighbor, and a white policeman. The point is to immerse the viewer into an all-too-common situation that is loaded with potential for misunderstanding and conflict (fortunately, nothing violent took place in this instance).

We proudly partnered with Camp Blue Skies again this year to help make camp a reality for adults with disabilities. Many Domtar volunteers worked with the camp several times over the past few months to help set up activities for campers, including zip lines, ropes courses, Frisbee games and post-lunch singalongs in the cafeteria.
