Farm workers share how Fair Trade's Community Development Funds are making a difference in their community
Last month I had the opportunity to interview farm workers at Wholesum Harvest’s Fair Trade Certified™ tomato farm in Amado, Arizona. I’ve spoken with many farm workers during my three years at Fair Trade USA, but this assignment had me nervous. Wholesum Amado represents a new frontier for Fair Trade.
Partners with first-ever Fair Trade Certified furniture factory in Vietnam, for total of 11 Fair Trade factories across Nepal, India, Pakistan
As the first international home furnishings retailer to partner with Fair Trade USA in 2014, West Elm and parent company Williams-Sonoma, Inc. (NYSE: WSM) today announced plans to expand upon their responsible retail commitments to include a goal to pay premiums of $3 million towards Fair Trade Community Development by 2020. The company also announced that it has partnered with Vietnam’s first-ever Fair Trade furniture factory, bringing its total operating Fair Trade factory count to 11 in countries including Nepal, India and Pakistan.

80% of farmers in India are rainfed smallholders who cultivate on 2 hectares of land or less. Taking cognizance of the multiple benefits of agroforestry, India became the first country to adopt a national agroforestry policy in 2014.
India designed the policy with the goal to improve productivity, create employment opportunities, generate income and meet the ever-increasing demand for timber, food, fuel, fodder, fertiliser and fibre from a growing population.
