As temperatures and energy cost rise, Lockheed Martin Skunkworks in Palmdale, Calif., is doing their part to not only conserve energy, but to create it.
“Lockheed Martin has a very strong commitment towards sustainability and environmental stewardship, as such we actively set GO Green goals on carbon, energy, water and waste reduction to be reached by 2020,” said Melani Austin, Lockheed Martin Skunkworks vice president of Execution and Integration.
To the Flipboard! Let’s see what we’ve got in my “Sustainability” category……
Ooooooooohhhhhhh. Concentrated solar. I like concentrated solar.
What is it, you ask? Well, to answer that, let’s first say what it isn’t. Concentrated solar isn’t the same thing as photovoltaic solar panels. That’s a form of solar power where an individual panel is able to absorb the energy from the sun and directly convert that energy into electricity. That’s good technology too.
The Ray Will Become a Proving Ground for Safer, Smarter Highway Mobility
The Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) State Transportation Board yesterday passed a resolution endorsing a project of The Ray C. Anderson Foundation, The Ray, to re-imagine our highway system into one that is safer and more sustainable.
The Ray, officially known as the Ray C. Anderson Memorial Highway, is an 18-mile corridor on Interstate 85 that connects exits 1 and 18 – from West Point, Ga., to LaGrange Ga.
Green Builder Media has partnered with specialty modular builder Shelter Dynamics to take the beautiful, smart + solar, net-zero, and resilient Arc House on tour this summer, debuting at PCBC this week in San Francisco.
Green Builder Media has a decade-long history of investigating the most topical issues of our time. If you’re a regular reader of our content, you’ve probably noticed that we’ve focused a lot of attention lately on the evolution of the smart home, the convergence of smart and solar technologies, resilient housing, and sustainable design.
The Arc House, part of Green Builder® Media’s VISION House® Series, represents an excellent example of resilient, autonomous housing that can be located in any kind of urban, suburban, or rural setting.

Boond Engineering and Development joins the Business Call to Action with a commitment to bring renewable solar power to millions across rural India
New Delhi, June 9, 2016 /3BL Media/ – Boond, a social enterprise that strives to bring “energy to all” through renewable solutions, joined the Business Call to Action (BCtA) with a commitment to install 4,000 solar micro-grids across rural India by 2022, reaching 1 million underserved people in rural areas with its inclusive clean-energy initiative.
All solar produces clean energy, but SunPower doesn't stop there. We raise the bar of sustainability through our "beneficial by design" philosophy that aims to be a regenerative force on the environment and society. Driven by this philosophy, Light on Land™ is SunPower’s signature program for solar power plant development where we build on disturbed lands, restore native habitats, minimize disruptions, and act as good neighbors to the surrounding community.
The question of energy efficiency is ever-pressing, especially as it relates to infrastructure growth in developing nations. In fact, so much attention has been given to this topic that the International Solar Alliance recently invited 120 countries to support the expansion of solar technologies in the Global South.
One of our family’s gathering places is particularly special, because it connects everyone to Ray in a very meaningful way. We call it Lost Valley.
I think it is important for families to have gathering places. It may be as simple as your parents’ living room on Christmas morning. Some families might gather at a favorite restaurant every month or so. Others might have an annual vacation where everyone blocks out a whole week to go to the same beach the family has visited for decades.
