UPS, along with longtime partner the World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts (WAGGGS), made a new commitment to invest in girls and young women. This new $2 million commitment is about giving girls and young women the tools and the platforms they need to become advocates and leaders on topics that directly impact them and their communities, such as environmental sustainability, the Millennium Development Goals and community development issues.

During the 2009 holiday season, many brands received a lift by partnering with non-profit organizations.  With the 2010 holiday season on the horizon, we can expect to see more cause marketing campaigns then ever.  What separates a good campaign from an average one, is the company's ability to effectively select a cause that resonates with it's customers.

Megan Strand of InCouraged Communications offers some insight, "I think the values match and communications pieces are more important than the cause du jour," said Strand. "[It is] better to choose a cause that truly resonates with your organization that go with a cause that seems 'popular.'"

Today the U.S. Federal Trade Commission (FTC) released proposed revisions to its Guides for the Use of Environmental Marketing Claims ("Green Guides"), which help marketers avoid making deceptive claims by outlining general principles and providing specific guidance about how consumers are likely to interpret particular claims, and how marketers can avoid misleading consumers. Center for Resource Solutions (CRS) applauds the FTC for providing clarifying guidance to marketers who wish to accurately portray their environmental qualifications, and to consumers, who navigate the sea of environmental logos and questionable marketing claims and trust that the eco-labels they see on products and marketing materials are accurate.
