As a Justmeans staff writer for the Sustainable Foods editorial department, I explore the disparity between consumerism and independence through the topic of sustainability. As a self-described 'urban homesteader' I look to find the balance between a sustainable lifestyle and use of corporate convenience. I don't necessarily want to live without electricity, but I want to be comfortable if ever there comes a time that I must. I do not own a car and use my bicycle when ever possible and take the bus or carpool when bicycling is not an option. My partner Justin & I grow most of our own food, use a CSA for items with large garden footprints, and make everything from scratch using as much local, responsible and ethically procured produce as possible.
