Climate Change - Involving The Big Players

Tackling climate change and reducing our carbon footprint is about changing personal behaviour but it is also about changing corporate and government behaviour too. Without the major consumers of energy making significant and technological changes then maintaining a sustainable planet will be impossible.

In this meeting we are going to look at how changes can take place at the high tech end and how corporations must get involved. We will first have an overview of the issue, then two case studies of those who are making a difference and finally we will have three or fours companies who will give a short description of what they do and how it is possible to make a difference.

We will then open this up to comments and discuss how we can make this the practice in all our major institutions and businesses. Giving the overview will be

Tim Harper will talk about the role of larger companies and how important it is that they make a difference.Tim is the founder of Cientifica Ltd, the world's leading source of global business intelligence about nanotechnologies. He is also one of the worlds foremost experts on commercialisation of technologies, with experience gained in both venture capital and the laboratory. Tim has given over 100 invited talks and keynote lectures on nanotechnologies ranging from economic implications to toxicology.
We will have two companies telling us how it is possible to make a difference.

Mary Rhead-Corr Exec Director of will explain how The United Bank of Carbon allows businesses to fund rainforest sustainability on a global basis. UBoC hopes to cause a reduction in logging and deforestation of the Brazillian rainforest by realising the commercial value of the carbon that it stores. Value gained from the storage of the carbon will be used to generate income for indigenous communities, protect Rainforest ecology and reduce global carbon emissions.

We hope our second company from the nanotechnology sector. The companies making short presentations will include,

Intelligent Energy is a leading clean power systems company that brings to the market fuel cell, fuel processing, hydrogen generation and desulphurisation technologies for application in several target markets.

Per Regnarsson is from Clean World Capital / Capital With Conscience ("CWC") is a investment advisory boutique focussed on renewable energy and clean tech with offices in Copenhagen and London. They work with Wind Energy, Solar Energy, Waste2Energy, Water Filtration, Clean Cars, Green housing and efficiency
