Description:

An intensive week-long exploration of corporate citizenship designed to help any manager - regardless of his or her functional responsibilities - better understand and contribute to corporate citizenship progress inside their company.

With globalization as the backdrop and with the relative societal role of the private, public and civic sectors in flux, the rights and responsibilities of business in society are rapidly changing. This presents new and ever-increasing complexity for businesses that aspire to be good corporate citizens and to be seen as good corporate citizens.

Good corporate citizenship is the product of good management across the organization; management that reflects the purpose, identity and values of the business and accounts for the potential impacts of the business - positive and negative - on its many stakeholders. Put another way, good corporate citizenship is the responsibility of every corporate executive, manager and employee. It is not the responsibility of a specific corporate functionand certainly not the responsibility of a specific individual, for example a CEO or corporate responsibility officer.

The Corporate Citizenship Management Academy was created to provide corporate managers with a functional knowledge of corporate citizenship and an understanding of emerging trends and management practices that can help them advance corporate citizenship from wherever they sit within the company. It is organized around critical questions that every corporate manager should be able to ask and answer if they are to lead effectively in the 21st century:

  • How will human impact on our natural world affect our ability to prosper in the future? How will it affect our company's ability to thrive?
  • What can companies do to maximize their positive environmental and social impacts and minimize their negative impacts?
  • What are the tools for setting strategy and managing and evaluating corporate citizenship?
  • How do companies articulate clear corporate citizenship performance goals and report out on progress?
  • How do companies communicate effectively about corporate citizenship both internally and externally?

The Corporate Citizenship Management Academy is an intensive 4-1/2 day learning program held on the Boston College campus. Upon completion of the Academy, participants will earn a Certificate in Corporate Citizenship Management from the Carroll School of Management.

Enrollment in the Corporate Citizenship Management Academy is by application only and the number of participants is limited. Early application is encouraged.
