Solar Economics Forum USA
Description:
The U.S. solar industry could become the largest solar market in the world and solar can play a significant role in the U.S. energy mix, providing a viable option that addresses environmental and security issues.
Despite the global economic crisis, the total capacity of solar energy grew by 1,265 megawatts (MW) in 2008 according to the Solar Energy Industries Association. Capacity in photovoltaic (PV) grew at record levels. And while no new concentrating solar power (CSP) plants were completed in 2008, projects totalling more than 6,000 MW are in the pipeline most with signed purchase power agreements.
Recent legislation, such as the Emergency Economic Stabilization Act of 2008 (EESA) extended the 30-percent federal Investment Tax Credit (ITC) for solar installations for 8 years and also allows utilities to benefit directly from the ITC. Billions of dollars will be invested under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 confirming President Obama’s support of renewable energy sources, including solar. It is clear that the U.S. will have the long term stability for the development of residential, commercial and large-scale solar.
Many state and local governments have also adopted innovative policies to speed the adoption of solar energy and now many states are considering legislation that would modify current programs and as well as how they will implement the American Reinvestment and Recovery Act.
The 12th edition of our Global Solar Series, Solar Economics Forum USA aims to bring together leading solar industry players to explore the economics of the solar industry, understand the impact of current policies and find ways to further accelerate market growth and cut costs to reach grid parity.
Key Reasons to Attend
- Understand the economics of the U.S. solar industry and why Solar has been given a key role in the U.S. response to the economic crisis.
- Find out the details behind the U.S. policy developments at federal and state level, what this means for solar businesses and how policy is driving the market forward
- Compare the true cost curves for the different technologies (PV, Thin Film, CSP, CPV) and hear how manufacturing is being scaled up
- Hear which technologies are attractive for investment and how projects can be financed in the current climate
- Benefit from unparalleled networking opportunities – the Global Solar Series has attracted over 700 high profile attendees this year
