ABOUT International Council on Mining and Metals - ICMM
The International Council on Mining and Metals (ICMM) was established in 2001 to act as a catalyst for performance improvement. Today, we bring together 21 mining and metals companies as well as 32 national and regional mining associations and global commodity associations to address the core sustainable development challenges faced by the industry.
Mining People and the Environment
ICMM is partnering with Mining Environmental Management and PDAC to present their first joint conference addressing the challenges facing the mining industry. The programme will address social and environmental imperatives within the mining industry in two half-day sessions.
In the afternoon session, the new GRI Mining and Metals Sector Supplement - co-develeped by ICMM - will be unveiled. The Supplement provides sector-specific guidance incorporating the GRI G3 Guidelines - the world’s most widely-used guidelines for reporting on economic, environmental and social performance.
Other topics for discussion will include community engagement, governance and accountability, biodiversity, human rights and climate change.
The conference is being held on 6 March 2010 in conjunction with PDAC's annual convention in Toronto, Canada.
