ABOUT Striding Out

At Striding Out we are searching for talented young entrepreneurs aged 18-35 who are demonstrating entrepreneurial flair and innovation in progressing a responsible business venture in the run up to Global Entrepreneurship Week 2008 -17th - 21st November.

Our defination of responsible business, is one which demonstrates a balance between economic, environmental and social goals to achieve ultimate business success. The future of our world is in the hands of individuals who are committed to generating commercial and ethical returns.

Global Entrepreneurship Week is looking to unleash people's enterprising ideas to address some of the society's biggest issues.

Founder of Striding Out Heather Wilkinson said:

To announce the Future 100 events, we are holding two profile events during Global Entrepreneurship Week 17th - 21st November in the North and South of England. Special guests from government, policy innovation and media will be invitied to attend.

Fairtrade Fortnight is upon us and Striding Out has brought together a panel of Fairtrade experts to give you the insider knowledge on how to set up a Fairtrade business. Our panel including Fairtrade entrepreneurs Kate Fullwell, Brian Walmsley and Juliet Bacon, will be looking at how to thrive in a Fairtrade business, looking at managing supply chains to maximising profit.

The Experts

Kate Fullwell Co-founder and Sales and Marketing Director of Fair Trade dried fruit and snack bar company Tropical Wholefoods . Kate has worked in Uganda and Burkina Faso, from where Tropical Wholefoods source large proportion of their dried fruits and has been involved in Fair Trade for more than fifteen years. Kate lives and works from home in South London.

Brian Walmsley, Founder of Fairgift

Fairgift is a family-run social enterprise that works with 44 fair trade producer groups in Africa, Asia & Latin America. They provide hundreds of beautiful, original homeware items primarily for gifts & wedding lists.

Fairgift was set up after he and his then fiance returned from living & working in Tanzania a few years ago, got married and couldn’t find a gift list that combined great quality with a strong social and environmental approach. All profits go back into developing sales of fair trade products & and the remained to Traidcraft Exchange.

Juliet Bacon, Marketing and Productions Manager, Epona Clothing

Juliet has been working for the B2B Fairtrade clothing label Epona for over 3 years where she’s overseen a rise in turnover from £50,000 to 850, 000. Epona. She writes regular articles in the trade press on ethical issues and has a monthly ‘Going Green’ feature in Printwear and Promotion.
