Conduct community outreach to create awareness of Upwardly Global's immigrant professional jobseeker program. This is an opportunity to help immigrants regain their careers in the US and create social change in the American workplace.

This is a one-year Americorp Vista position with anticipated start date of December 2008. For more information about the Vista program, click here.

At Upwardly Global, our VISTAS are as much a part of the team as our regular staff members. The last person in this position was promoted and offered a full-time paid staff position upon completion of the VISTA year of service.

The Community Outreach Coordinator will be responsible for helping to increase the number of qualified jobseekers enrolled in Upwardly Global's program for immigrant professionals. The VISTA will also work to coordinate jobseeker outreach through media relations, community partnerships, and Upwardly Global events for new jobseekers.

• Build and maintain relationships with key community partners (non-profit organizations working with immigrants and refugees, cultural centers, ESL schools, etc.)
• Coordinate meetings and off site outreach presentations with community partners
• Coordinate ethnic media outreach in local, ethnic newspapers, radio and television
• Develop press materials including photos, articles on successful jobseekers, fact sheets and press kits for media
• Build relationships with media contacts and research new ethnic media outlets to target
• Research and analyze effectiveness and yield of various community outreach methods
• Additional projects as assigned

Required Qualifications:

• BA or BS or equivalent foreign degree credential
• 1-2 years of professional experience preferred
• Interest in and/or experience in community outreach and/or media relations
• Excellent oral, written, interpersonal, and phone communication skills
• High level of attention to detail
• High degree of cultural sensitivity and awareness
• Sense of humor and flexibility essential
• Some weekend and evening work may be required
• Demonstrated perseverance and optimism in achieving challenging goals a must
• Foreign-born professionals strongly encouraged to apply
