Art21 is a non-profit organization that illuminates the creative process of today’s visual artists through the production of documentary films, videos, and television, as well as a rich array of educational resources and programs. Art21’s flagship project is its Peabody award winning primetime national PBS series, Art:21–Art in the Twenty-First Century now in its fifth season on PBS. Based in New York City but with a global reach on television and online, Art21’s additional projects include: highly trafficked websites (pbs.org/art21, art21.org, and blog.art21.org); extensive curricular resources and a hardcover companion book; professional development training for educators; and live public programs.
Art21 currently seeks a creative, energetic grant writer with outstanding writing and editing ability and proven track record in securing new sources of funding.
The grant writer reports to the Director of Development and will also work closely with the Executive Director and key members of the Board of Trustees who are active in fundraising.
Contract basis to begin with excellent potential for growth into staff position.
Grant writer duties:-
Stratergy
- Assist with creation and implementation of annual development plan
- Collaborate with Development department and program staff
Grant and corporate sponsorship proposals
- Identify new sources of support
- Write effective letters of inquiry
- Compose grant proposals to foundations and government funding sources
- Create compelling corporate sponsorship proposals
Budgets and financial reporting
- Create project budgets in collaboration with program staff
- Complete financial reports
- Project income for annual budget and monthly cash flow updates with Managing Director
Administrative
- Manage awards and contracts
- Organize and create materials for Board and Committee meetings as required
- Oversee proper processing and acknowledgment of contributions and pledges
- Ensure proper crediting of funders in materials (broadcast, web site, printed materials)
Qualifications:-
- BA or BS required; additional study a plus
- 3+ years relevant experience, including substantial grant writing responsibilities
- Outstanding writing ability under time constraints
- Outstanding computer skills (Microsoft Office) and facility with databases (experience with eTapestry a plus)
- Superior organizational ability and attention to detail
- Flexibility and sense of humor
- Team player in a high energy, fast-paced work environment
- Passion for contemporary art, art education, and art on television
