Organization Description: Equality California (EQCA) and its sister organizations (Equality California Institute, Equality California Issues PAC, and Equality California Candidate PAC) share a common mission to achieve equality for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) Californians.
Position: The EQCA Major Gifts Officer (MGO) supports the Director of Development and the overall Development team by managing the major donor program (Capitol Club) and membership giving tied to field and development operations. The MGO coordinates EQCA’s acknowledgement program to ensure the appropriate recognition of EQCA donors. The MGO is also responsible for team participation in both donor recognition events and financially successful fundraising events. The MGO reports to the Director of Development and serves as member of an outstanding Development Team focused on creating new ways to promote and raise funds for EQCA.
Responsibilities:-
Establishment and Implementation of Development Plan
- Support Director of Development, Board of Directors and Executive Director to fulfill annual Resource Development plan that supports EQCA programs and special campaigns
- Collaborate on and oversee Field membership fundraising efforts
Donor and Resource Development
- Work with the Director of Development, Board of Directors and community to identify potential donors and funding sources
- Meet with identified donors to provide information regarding the mission and services of the agency and solicit new, renewed and additional financial support
Communication and Donor Recognition
- Manage donor acknowledgment stewardship and fulfillment program to ensure donor satisfaction
- Interact professionally with staff, Board members, members, donors, volunteers and community members and ensures that all are treated with respect
- Utilize designated channels of communication to express concerns
- Responds to all communication from staff, board members, donors and key community persons in a timely manner
- Provide regular reports to the Director of Development, Managing Director and/or Executive Director
- Maintain accurate records of all donor information and correspondence
- Ensure that all donor communication and recognition information is accurate
- Maintain professional relationships with local, statewide and national LGBT and allied agencies and collaborators
Budget Development and Oversight
- Participate in creation of annual budget for development department
- On a monthly basis, track expenditures to ensure compliance with approved budgets
- Ensure timely submission of all check requests
Quality Assurance
- Ensure that all activities of the Development Department meet the policies established by the organization
- Support on-going quality assurance monitoring systems to ensure Development Department is in compliance
- Provide written documentation regarding difficult work or donor situations
- Continue to pursue the development of cultural sensitivity and proficiency agency-wide
Agency Representative
- Represent Equality California at community and/or professional activities and events, as appropriate, and/or as directed by the Director of Development, Managing Director and/or Executive Director
- Exhibit cooperation and courtesy while creating a positive public image for EQCA and productive work environment
Requirements:-
Experience and Education
- Previous experience cultivating, managing and soliciting high level, high net worth donors
- Five+ years of major gifts or other high-level executive work experience required
- BA/BS required
- Proficient in PC computer environment (MS Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint)
- Experience with Kintera online fundraising software is highly desirable
- Frequent travel is required
Skills
- Ability to manage basic PR and promotion functions
- Ability to handle multiple priorities and function well in a team environment
- Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work with diverse community groups
- Willingness to accept additional responsibilities as requested by the Director of Development, Managing Director and/or Executive Director
- Flexibility in completing tasks as required by the position
- Positive daily work attitude on a consistent basis
