    Foundation for the People of Burma (FPB) is the largest, independently-supported, U.S.-based humanitarian organization focusing exclusively on Burma. We have been implementing projects and supporting community-based action since 1999. Our programs provide direct assistance to communities that have been severely affected by injustice. We engage in compassionate, creative and strategic interventions which facilitate positive, long-lasting change for those that face scarcity and lack personal freedom.

    Position: Communications and Donor Relations Officer

    Foundation for the People of Burma seeks a dynamic, multi-talented individual for a full-time position in charge of overall communication for the organization. The person will be responsible for the day-to-day external communications (website copy, e-newsletters, donor acknowledgement letters) and assisting with design needs (ads, posters, brochures, business cards, etc.). This position is charged with a considerable amount of writing, ensuring consistency in voice, style, and appearance for all written materials throughout the organization.

    SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:-

    PRINT AND WEB COMMUNICATIONS

    • Manage the preparation and implementation of all communication activities, bi-annual newsletters, quarterly e-communications, publications, press releases, print mailings.
    • Manage and develop content for FPB’s website.
    • Provide day-to-day management and coordination of communication activities.
    • Oversee and contribute content for project newsletters in both electronic and print formats.
    • Use Adobe InDesign to create newsletters and other organizational materials.
    • Manage relationships with all communications related vendors.
    • Implement and analyze organization communications plan.

    INDIVIDUAL DONOR RELATIONS

    • Manage FPB donor database to ensure consistency.
    • Assist with the implementation of internet-based gifts solicitation.
    • Process donations and prepare donor acknowledgement letters.
    • Manage some direct donor communications.

    GRANT WRITING AND REPORTING

    • Provide support for Grantwriting and Reporting.
    • Maintain Grants reporting Calendar.

    SPECIAL EVENTS

    • Assist in the planning and execution of special events, including the development of event messaging and positioning.

    QUALIFICATIONS:-

    • BA in related field.
    • Two to five years of relevant experience in communications and/or international development.
    • Computer skills including Excel, Microsoft Word, internet, email and knowledge of, or ability to learn, Adobe InDesign.
    • Excellent writing and editing skills.
    • Excellent interpersonal and public communication skills, ability to interact professionally in all settings.
    • Exceptional organizational skills and ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
    • Results-oriented with good judgment, planning and analytical skills.
    • Experience in the design and production and mailing of print materials and publications.
    • Ability to work independently and meet deadlines.

    DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:-

    • Innovative and strategic thinker – ability to see the big picture.
    • Familiarity with nonprofit programs, Burma or Southeast Asia knowledge a plus.
    • Experience using donor databases.
    • Experience writing for the web and managing web projects.

    This position will be based in San Francisco, CA. Intended start date: January 4, 2010.
