POSITION: Director of Programs and Training
REPORTS TO: Associate Director

OVERVIEW OF POSITION:
Under the direction of the Associate Director, the Director of Programs and Training is responsible for the management, development and implementation of training programs across the organization. Serving as the programmatic lead for MHA-SF’s Institute on Compulsive Hoarding and Cluttering (ICHC), the Director of Programs and Training will bring programmatic innovation and new offerings to this nationally recognized program by growing the scope of the ICHC’s content expertise, developing new methods for delivery of education and training and expanding the reach of ICHC program participation and partnerships. The Director of Programs and Training will also lead the launch of the Sharing Our Lives, Voice and Experiences (SOLVE) program aimed at training peer educators with mental illness to speak and share their stories with community groups to reduce stigma. The Director of Programs and Training will also lead the production of other MHA-SF professional and community education workshops, trainings and events, employing sophisticated training methods in collaborating with thought leaders on emerging mental health issues. The Director of Programs and Training will supervise the work of 1.0 FTE Outreach and Training Coordinator and 1.0 FTE Policy and Programs Coordinator.
RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
- Oversee MHA-SF’s Institute on Compulsive Hoarding and Cluttering (ICHC) including planning the annual conference, directing the Training Institute and serving as the lead national contact for ICHC.
- Oversee media, advocacy and public speaking training for a speaker’s bureau of 15-20 individuals with mental illness and coordinate speaking engagements at social service agencies, community centers and other venues across the city.
- Oversee agency trainings for mental health providers, service recipients, and the community.
- Recruit and manage expert trainers for trainings, conferences and presentations.
- Write and oversee copy for program materials and information for the public.
- Provide talks on mental health and MHA-SF programs in the community including to non-profit partners, city departments, and community groups.
- Support program staff to organize people with mental illness to serve as trainers and to integrate individuals living with mental illness into trainings.
- Develop and maintain strong working relationships with agency partners and constituencies.
- Manage program deadlines and project timelines with primary accountability.
- Assemble and submit data and reports on numbers served and project outcomes for all MHA-SF programs.
- Ability to travel to local and regional training sites and meetings.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Experience planning, coordinating and conducting successful training programs and events.
- Experienced manager with prior experience promoting positive behavioral health outcomes through professional training and community education.
- Experience developing educational curriculum and programs for both professional and community audiences within a behavioral health context.
- Ability to lead innovations in program development through the use of digital media, online platforms and other program enhancements.
- Knowledge of and commitment to issues affecting individuals with psychiatric disabilities and their families and bringing about systemic improvements
- Highly organized and resourceful, excellent attention to detail, ability to multi-task, prioritize and manage time well to accomplish all key tasks and meet deadlines.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Excellent public speaking, networking and facilitation skills
- Familiarity with and commitment to the recovery model, harm reduction and consumer empowerment
- Undergraduate degree required; Graduate degree preferred.
- Commitment to the mission, vision and values of MHA-SF.
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS
- Familiarity with San Francisco’s network of behavioral health and social service agencies, programs and systems.
- Experience working with and supporting consumers of services to be trainers
- Experience in developing supportive working collaborations with community service providers, government agencies and the general public within a behavioral health context.
- Experience with City contract management and report writing.
