    Since 1965, Neighborhood Legal Services of Los Angeles County (NLS-LA) has provided free legal services to low-income residents. We serve all of Los Angeles County, including the San Fernando and San Gabriel Valleys, the neighboring communities in the Pomona, Santa Clarita and Antelope Valleys, and the cities of Burbank, Glendale, and Pasadena. NLS-LA provides the highest quality services to its clients, individually and collectively.

    We are seeking a development director to join our executive management team. We are contemplating a January 2010 start date.

    The candidate we seek will have primary responsibility for the development and oversight of an effective private donor solicitation strategy, as well as creation and implementation of a capital or endowment campaign. Responsibilities will include the administration of an existing $6 Million/year grant program including grantor relations, grant compliance and oversight of proposal development and preparation. Supervision of 2-3 person Development Office including database management and design/implementation of donor tracking and cultivation program. Provide counsel and advice to the Management and the Board of Directors on development issues.

    Neighborhood Legal Services (NLS-LA) is one of Los Angeles County's leading public interest law offices and has been the primary legal aid program serving the San FernandoValley for 40 years and the San Gabriel/Pomona Valleys since 2001. The NLS staff of 100+, including 45 lawyers, provides legal assistance to low-income individuals, families and groups in the areas of family law and domestic violence, housing, health care, education, public benefits, economic and job development, immigrant rights, consumer rights, and environmental justice. Program offices are located in Glendale, Pacoima and El Monte. This position is full time.

    Qualifications:-

    Innovative and creative person with excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Experience creating, administering and overseeing a private donor solicitation program for a non-profit organization. Knowledge of a capital or endowment campaign in a multi-cultural urban environment helpful. Some grant writing and grant oversight experience. Commitment to public interest work and social justice. Bilingual skills desired.
