    Pacific Lodge Boys' Home is a non-profit 501 (c) (3) organization providing boys ages 13 to 17 with an acclaimed 24-hour residential treatment program. Serving the community since 1927, Pacific Lodge is recognized for its professional staff and dedicated board of directors.

    Director of Mental Health

    This position requires a LCSW and an ability to foster collaborative management based communication, sharing, and inclusive decision-making is strongly desired. Attention to detail, communication skills, and computer literacy are a must.

    Qualifications:

    1. Current California Clinical Social Worker granted by the State Board of Behavioral Science Examiners and the ability to supervise social work interns.
    2. Minimum of five years post master’s experience (ten years preferred) in a residential mental health setting, progressive supervisory/administrative experience in the field of behavioral health services, preferably in programs providing the care and treatment for severely emotionally disturbed children or similar types of settings.
    3. The ability to lead a large staff in achieving a therapeutic clinical program that is consistent, professional and responsive to the needs of the target population.
    4. Ability to effectively implement Department of Mental Health and Social Service Department programs in accordance with all required policies, procedures and contract expectations.
    5. The ability to relate to persons of all ages, diverse backgrounds, skills and abilities.
    6. Effective teaching and training skills to communicate all aspects of treatment issues related to quality residential treatment.
    7. Ability to role model and teach adopted values of the Center.
    8. The ability to facilitate cooperation and coordination between staff, various disciplines and program departments to effectively achieve the treatment goals of Pacific Lodge and to create a positive and supportive work culture.
    9. The ability to resolve personnel issues in an assertive, professional and sensitive fashion.
    10. The ability to effectively communicate all aspects of treatment and milieu issues related to quality residential programming and to serve as a positive role model, teacher and coach to others on an effective basis.
    11. Satisfactorily fulfill requirements for employment at Pacific Lodge, such as employment references, physical examination/TB Test, criminal record (Live Scan-fingerprints), clearances, etc.
    12. Possess a valid California driver’s license and a clean driving record in compliance with personnel standards.

    BROAD RESPONSIBILITIES: The Director of Mental Health supervises trains and provides structure to the mental health therapeutic programs at Pacific Lodge. This position is responsible for the effective implementation of the agency program statements, mental health contracts and policy and procedures according to state licensing and other regulatory bodies including the Los Angeles County Department of Mental Health and the California Board of Behavioral Sciences. The Director of Mental Health closely supervises the service providers including clinicians, social workers/therapists and Mental Health Rehabilitation Staff in the implementation of the service treatment plans, records and reports in accordance with established policies and procedures. This position is also responsible for the supervision of the assessment and treatment planning process as well as all required documentation. The Director of Mental Health is also responsible to coordinate their duties with all key staff in order to ensure that the treatment services provided is of high quality and is consistent with the treatment philosophy and values of Pacific Lodge. This includes ensuring that all service operating units maintain a positive, safe and therapeutic culture so that positive treatment can take place within a productive and healthy work culture. This position is also responsible for the ongoing readiness of all mental health and program audits as they pertain to the quality delivery of all clinical and mental health services.

    Specific Responsibilities:-

    Essential and other important responsibilities and duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:

    1. Evaluate the adequacy of the staffing and services to meet the physical, psychological, and social needs of residents and families. Recommend new staffing models and programs and services as indicated and appropriate.
    2. Conduct intensive weekly case reviews with therapeutic and line staff.
    3. In partnership with Associate Director, determine the needs and develop and conduct effective and ongoing trainings with staff to address those needs.
    4. Supervise trainer and oversee ongoing staff workshops and discussions to help staff reflect upon themselves and their reactions to their peers and residents.
    5. In partnership with Admissions Coordinator review and approve all applications for admissions to the program.
    6. In partnership with Associate Director review all incidents and accidents, and, if appropriate, recommend ways to improve the safety of the program.
    7. Oversee credentialing and annual peer reviews of psychologists and therapists providing care to residents and families.
    8. Research and recommend Evidence Based Program and implement.
    9. Develop and implement outcome measurements; research and make recommendations on effective and long-term outcome studies.
    10. Partner with the Associate Director to ensure compliance with applicable laws, regulations and accreditation standards
    11. Participate in a strategic visioning process to determine the best and highest use of our resources for the services of children and families.
    12. Participate in top level discussions with universities and other training programs about partnership opportunities.
    13. Participate in regular clinical advisory meetings and calls; review outcome studies; ongoing therapeutic program and other issues as appropriate.
    14. E.H.R. selection process and full implementation.
    15. DMH Contract monitoring, negotiation, and contract expansion.
    16. Attend all DMH meetings.
    17. Research MHSA funds and complete applications.
    18. Oversee opportunity for transitional housing program.
    19. Network closely with DMH.
    20. Oversee all the DMH components (psychiatrist, nursing, psychologist, clinicians, SA, QA, Aftercare, etc).
    21. Responsible of oversight of QA/QI process and attend QA Spa 2 meetings
    22. Represent the agency in community meetings (ACHSA, DMH).
    23. Fill all clinical positions.
    24. Oversee all components of DMH contract.

    USUAL WORK HOURS: May vary according to program needs, but usually 40 hours Monday through Friday.

    In the course of performing this job, the incumbent typically spend time sitting, standing, walking, driving, carrying, listening, writing (word processing), speaking, training of staff and participating in the physical restraint of residents, as necessary.
